What are the pros and cons of having flash on a dental website?
Post date:Thu, 05 Feb 2009 14:04:27

Flash banners can be visually appealing, add a level of modernism and professionalism, and capture the viewer’s attention for a few seconds- just enough to encourage them to stay on the page and read or click through to the important parts of your website.  In fact, I usually recommend clients add simple flash to their websites for just those reasons.

Flash can also be used to show animations of complex explanations.  A perfect example is a dental service.  Many people do not know what a root canal procedure is.  All they know is that it’s a scary procedure that people groan about.  By including a step by step animation- that is not gruesome or scary- you educate the patient and alleviate their anxiety.  They also come to the office prepared and will better understand any comforting explanations you give them in the office.

THERE ARE THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO WITH FLASH!  I capitalize this for a reason.  You need to be aware of the benefits of flash but you [Read more..

How do you setup standard SEO on my website? What tools do you recommend to help keep my SEO up to date?
Post date:Sat, 31 Jan 2009 00:29:06

Although this answer could potentially be hundreds of pages long, I will stick to the basics and give you a brief overview.  If you purchase the standard SEO package, we will integrate a number of keywords/keyphrases for your dental practice into the website.

For example, if you are a practice called Big Smiles in Fort Wayne, IN we may use some of these keyphrases:

dentist in Fort Wayne, IN
dentist in Ft. Wayne, IN
Fort Wayne, IN dentist
Ft. Wayne, IN dentist
Big Smiles dental practice
Big Smiles Fort Wayne, IN

We take these keyphrases and integrate them into every aspect of the website- alt tags, imagery, pages, links, and more.  Once our initial SEO is complete, we go through a number of other steps that will give you a good foundation for search engines.

Website Statistics for Dentists: Can I track the traffic to my dental website on my own?
Post date:Wed, 28 Jan 2009 17:48:02

Absolutely.  New Dental Web uses Google Analytics on every website we create.  It is the most powerful tool on the internet and we set this service up at no charge.  You will have complete access to total visitors, unique visitors, traffic sources, pageviews, time on site, bounce rate, referring websites, search engines, keywords people used on those search engines, pages people visited, the place where people left your site, and about 1000 other things.

The statistics are incredibly intuitive and you can access the stats from anywhere at any time.  Traffic statistics usually show up within the day and are always available the next day.

Do you provide content for dental procedures? Or do I need to write all the content for the website myself?
Post date:Tue, 27 Jan 2009 17:24:21

New Dental Web has worked with dentists and professional writers to create standard website content.  The content we provide with the initial dental website setup can be used by your practice.  Many dentists do not have time (or want to make the time) to sit down and write out an entire website.  For this reason, our content is very helpful and provides dentists with a great start.

That being said, dentists have many differing schools of thought about services and procedures.  We recommend that dentists run through the website and edit any content that does not fit their beliefs.  In addition, we encourage dentists to write with the personality of their practice in mind.  Personality can go a long way and will help to establish a stronger dentist-patient relationship.

Why do dentists need an email newsletter? How will it benefit for our practice?
Post date:Mon, 26 Jan 2009 15:04:49

Email newsletters can be a powerful tool for dentists.  If your practice is like the majority of dental practices, it’s either not using a newsletter or it’s not using the newsletter effectively as the marketing tool that it is.

Newsletters should be used to build your relationship with patients, educate them about dental hygiene and your practice, and offer them services that they might otherwise not know about.  Just as important, it gives you the ability to cost-effectively stay in touch with them.  Timing is everything and monthly email newsletter keep you in front of your patients.

Below are some of te benefits and tips to help create a more powerful marketing package.

  1. Educate Your Patients and Cater the Newlsetter to Them
All to often, practices create newsletters as a brag book.  They discuss awards or talk about practice happenings that are not relevant to the patient.  Patients will quickly start deleting your e [Read more..

Should I purchase a custom dental website or a template dental website? What are the benefits of each?
Post date:Sun, 25 Jan 2009 00:54:30

Both are a good option.  It really depends on the purpose of the website and the dentist’s preference.  Please read below to learn more and see what option fits your practice.

Dental Template Websites

The templates that New Dental Web offers are custom created by our designers to the specifications of a dentist.  So in a sense, the template website is a custom website. However, it was created for a particular dentist who may or may not have the same sense of style and practice that other dentists have.  In addition, templates are available to all dentists so if thousands of dentists choose the same template, then that template may not seem very original.  That being said, most dentists do not have a very large territory so hundreds of dentists across the country are probably not competing anyway.

Benefits of Dental Template Websites

  • Low upfront costs (professional website at a fraction of the cost)

Will I be able to manage the content of my dental website myself? How?
Post date:Wed, 21 Jan 2009 13:28:50

Yes.  New Dental Web offers a robust content management system for your dental website that allows you to login from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.  You can personally add articles, links, text, images, etc…

Additionally, many people opt to have a “blog” that is completely customized to match the website and will allow you to create articles and your own categories very quickly.  Blogs are an example of the Web 2.0 tools that we offer to clients.  They are search engine optimized and allow you to create steady, up-to-date content so targeted patients can find you on the internet.

Content can include articles, press releases, specials, recommended services, educational materials, and more.  Because we customize the blog to look exactly like your website, it appears as if you are just creating regular pages on your website when in fact you are creating a highly search engine optimized, easily navigable blog.
